If you thought Swedish food was mainly the things you can get in IKEA, you need to take a trip to this indoor food market. The counters and stalls here are jam packed with produce. The colours are vivid, the atmosphere is friendly and the smells are superb! The building itself is quite a star too dating back to the 1880s and there are café’s and restaurants where you can sit down to try some of Sweden’s best dishes. The food hall opens every day except Sunday and is particularly busy at lunchtime and through the afternoon. This is an extract from our free Stockholm City Guide.
In 2007, Ostermalm was named the world’s 7th best food hall! World renowned chefs like Jamie Oliver have sung its praises too. In swedish it is known as Östermalms Saluhall. The traders on each stall are always very happy to offer advice on what to buy for cooking on your holiday or even for taking back home.
The food hall is open for business Monday to Thursday from 9.30am to 6pm, Friday from 9.30am to 7pm and Saturday from 9.30am to 4pm. There is no charge for admission.
